Assign Restrike & Cams

This function provides a method to define various Restrike and CAM Operations, such as single axis restriking, multi axis restriking, flattening, coining, and CAM forms, in an efficient manner. The function allows you to specify a single part to produce a truncated strip layout - You can also create an identical mirror of the part.

In this function you can mark the faces that require a restrike operation, including those that require CAMs (forming operations that cannot be performed from the top and need to be done from the side). Faces are selected, and a color is applied to identify which restrike or CAM operation is to be performed on that face. The available operations are:

The defined data is collected, processed, and loaded into the Die Quote.

Process

  1. Click the button in the menu on the right hand side of the graphics pane to open the function.

    The Feature Guide for this function only contains one step, along with a preview and exit button.

    When you open the function, the environment is configured with the available tools. Any other parts in an Assembly are hidden and the part is displayed in an Isometric view. You can only work with faces in this environment, lines, splines, composite curves, and points in the file are deleted.

  2. The Sets pane is displayed below the Feature Tree.

    A Set is a group of entities. Any sets already defined in the part file will be deleted. There are two criteria sets defined for single color and faces. The part faces available for selection are added to the faces set.

    Note: You can define a set by selecting specific entities and declaring that they are part of a specific set (Selection Set) or by declaring that all entities that have specific characteristics (for example, all red lines) are included in a specific set (Criteria Set). These two types of sets cannot be mixed. Each set is either a Selection or a Criteria set, for more on Sets, see Sets.

  3. Define the faces that will be added to each forming operation by assigning a color to the part features.

    1. Select the faces.
    2. Click the operation to be assigned
    3. The faces are colored to indicate the operation
    1. If your part does not require forming operations, click the reset button  to add all faces to the Un-Assigned Faces set. Faces that do not require a forming operation should be assigned to the Un-Assigned Faces set. You must assign each face to a Restrike and CAMs set or to the Un-Assigned Faces set.

    2. Click on a face to select it. Click on a selected face to de-select it. Multiple faces can be selected in one operation.

      Note: You cannot de-select faces after the color is assigned, but faces can be re-assigned to a different set if required.

    3. When you have finished selecting faces;

      1. Click the set you wish to assign the faces to.

      2. Right-click to display the pop up menu, and select Apply Color.

      The applied color indicates which operation you want to run on that set of faces.

    4. Repeat the process to assign a color to each face. Faces can be re-assigned to a different set if required - Click the face to re-assign and apply a different color.

    5. When you have assigned all the faces required for each operation, click the exit button  to move to the next step.

  4. The function will perform a series of checks:

    1. Any face that does not belong to either the Un-Assigned Faces set or any of the sets in the Restrike and CAMs folder is assigned to the Orphan Faces set and given the appropriate color.
      If you have orphan faces, a dialog will be displayed. You must exit and restart the function, define the forming type of these faces, delete them, or make them un-assigned.

    2. If all the faces are in the Un-Assigned Faces set, there are no forming operations to perform, and an onscreen dialog is displayed.
      If no forming operations are required, click OK.
      If forming operations are required, click Exit, assign faces to the appropriate forming sets, and rerun the function.

  5. The function processes ALL the faces in the Restrike and CAMs Sets and calculates the data using the criteria in the following table:

  6. A notification is displayed when processing is complete. Click Exit to complete this step.
