Cursor (Pick Tool)
The mouse is used as a tool for picking geometry. As you move over different types of geometric entities with the mouse cursor, the cursor symbol changes to indicate the type of entity you are pointing to, enabling you to pick the required entity.
You can limit the types of geometry that are available for picking by using the Selection FilterSelection Filter. This means that if a certain entity type (for example, Edge) is unselected in the Selection Filter, the cursor symbol does not indicate that entity type (edge) when you move the mouse over it and, therefore, it cannot be picked.
Note: When you pickpick(left mouse button) an entity, it becomes "selected" and is displayed as selected in the defined color. You can define the color of selected entities (and also highlighted entities) in Preferences under Tools > Preferences > General > Colors and Styles > Highlight and Select.

"Select Other" mode. This enables you to pick "other" entities that are hidden or adjacent to the current location of the cursor.
You can access this Select Other mode in the following ways:
-
While selecting an entity, release the mouse button and wait until the cursor changes to the Select Other mode as shown by the cursor symbol on the left.
When the Select Other cursor is displayed, click the pick button and move the mouse up slowly in the direction indicated by the cursor (while keeping the pick button pressed). Hidden or adjacent entities are now highlighted. To pick one of these entities, release the mouse button when the appropriate entity is highlighted.
-
When an entity is highlighted, scroll the middle mouse button roller back and forth. In this case, the Select Other mode is activated immediately, rather than waiting for it as described above.
Hidden or adjacent entities are now highlighted. Pick the required entity as you would normally (using the left mouse button).
